Heavy rains in Kochi may disrupt first ODI

Kochi: Heavy rains in Kochi is causing concern about the fate of the India-Australia first ODI on Oct 17.

It has been raining heavily since last night at Kochi.

The practice matches of both the teams has been cancelled due to the rains, Kerala cricket Association (KCA) sources said.

The Australian team was to practice this morning and the Indian team in the afternoon, but due to the rains both the practice sessions have been cancelled, the sources said.

‘The ground condition is very bad. There is lot of water in the ground’, the sources told a news agency. ‘However, if the rains clears by this afternoon and there is sunshine , we will try our best’, the sources said.

Though the ground has been covered with the plastic covers brought from Chennai, but there is seepage of water into the ground due to the heavy rains, the sources said.

The Indian and Australian team members had reached here yesterday after the second test in Bangalore, which Indian won along with the previous Mohali test.

According to Met department, today and tomorrow weather will be cloudy with one or two showers and thundershowers. The weather is likely to clear by Sunday.
