SCORECARD» | COMMENTARY» ==================================================================================== SRI LANKA innings: Over 40 || Score 218/3 James Anderson picked his second wicket of the match as Mahela Jayawardene was lured by a short ball and he went to his right but mistimed the shot towards deep square leg where Bairstow jumped to his front and took a good catch. Mahela and Sanga had added 85 runs for the third wicket. Nuwan Kulasekara has been promoted up the order. The Sri Lankans scored 68 runs in the last ten overs and they now need 76 from the last ten. After Dilshan’s dismissal, two of Sri Lanka’s most experienced cricketers Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene are getting their side close to the chase. While Sanga has looked flawless today, Mahela is slowly getting into his groove as he scored two boundaries in the 30th over bowled by Broad. The required run-rate has swollen up to over 7 runs per over and they need to find a boundary every over from here onwards. The required run-rate has even though reached to 6.5 per over, with these two at the wicket and with nine wickets in hand, the Lankans can accelerate later in the innings. 51 runs came in the last ten overs. ==================================================================================== Over 10 || Score 48/1 James Anderson got the first breakthrough for his side as Kushal Perera failed to clear mid-on and the ball went straight to Bopara. Since then, Sanaga and Dilshan have added 38 runs for the second wicket. Both these batsmen are experienced campaigners and Sri Lanka would want them to stitch a solid partnership. MDKJ Perera c Bopara b Anderson 6 (11b) ==================================================================================== ENGLAND innings: Over 50 || Score 293/7 Ravi Bopara played a gem of an innings towards the end to take England to a formidable score. Bopara’s 13-ball 33, 28 of which came in the last over bowled by Eranga have given England bowlers something substantial to defend. Eranga picked two wickets in the innings but went for 80 runs in his quota of ten overs. Earlier in the innings, Rangana Herath picked a wicket off the final ball of his spell as Trott missed a sweep shot and was hit on the pads. That ended his 87-run partnership with Joe Root. Joe root was playing a good hand before Lasith Malinga, who has been very unlucky today, dismissed him as he worked a short ball straight to Mahela at deep midwicket. Malinga struck again off the very next ball as Morgan was struck on the pads and was given out lbw. Both of them added 37 runs in the power play and with ten overs to go and with eight wickets in hand, England must aim at anything between 280-300 from here onwards. Jonathan Trott 70* (83b) Joe Root 39* (35b) ==================================================================================== Over 30 || Score 142 Overs after he reached his half-century, Sri Lanka got the big breakthrough as Alastair Cook was dismissed by Rangana Herath. Cook tried to play across the line and was hit on the pads, he reviewed the decision but his pad was in line of the stumps. The dismissal also ended the 83-run partnership between the England skipper and Jonathan Trott. Trott is batting on 44 and being the set batsman, he will have to do the most of the scoring from here onwards. Joe Root is the new batsman at the crease. AN Cook lbw b Herath 59 (85b) ==================================================================================== Over 20 || Score 85/1 England lost the wicket of their in-form batsman as Ian Bell worked a half-volley straight to midwicket. It was a soft dismissal off a very poor delivery and Bell chose the fielder. Compared to the first ten overs, England managed to score runs at brisk pace in these ten overs as their batsmen added 47 runs. Cook is still at the crease and he would be looking forward to score a big one from here onwards. ==================================================================================== Over 10 || Score 38/0 It has been a slow start by England and both Cook and Bell have been careful about their strokes in the beginning of the innings. Bell has managed to score three boundaries whereas the England skipper has scored just one. ==================================================================================== England have already won a match and in case they defeat Sri Lanka today, they would seal their berth for the semis. Nuwan Kulasekara has replaced Thisara Perera in today’s match and the Lankans would be looking forward to their first victory after losing to West Indies in the previous game which was a low-scoring thriller.
