Dhaka: Australia have won the most number of ICC World Cup’s, four, in the history of the game. However, the ICC World Twenty20 is entering into its fifth edition and surprisingly Aussies haven’t lifted the trophy yet.
This time around, Australia are certainly among the strong contenders to lift the coveted title. In fact, Australian selectors gave their best shot while selecting the 17-member squad for the 16-nation event. They took everyone by surprise by selecting two old but effective warhorses – Brad Hodge and Brad Hogg in the squad. Both the players have an immense experience under their belt and can help Australia win their maiden World Twenty20 title. Moreover, they have quality all-rounders in Shane Watson, James Faulkner, Daniel Christian and Cameron White who can turn up as match winners on any given day. When it comes to batting, Australia have probably the most dangerous opening pair in the shortest format of game in David Warner and Aaron Finch. In the middle-order, they have skipper George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell and Brad Haddin, who can tear apart any bowling unit in the world with their lusty blows. In the bowling department, they have the fiery Mitchell Johnson and Mitchell Starc to provide the team crucial breakthroughs in the beginning and push the opponent at the back-foot. So Australia have enough fire-power in their squad, who can make them win their maiden World Twenty20 title.
