Netherlands crash out of World Twenty20 after washout

New Delhi: The Netherlands cricket team became the first casualty of the 2016 World Twenty20 after its second qualifying match against Oman was washed out on Friday.

Persistent rain at Dharamsala forced the match at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium to abandon without a ball being bowled.

Netherlands had lost their opening Group A game to Bangladesh.

Oman won the toss and put the Netherlands in to bat, but no play was possible in the first game of the day.

For Oman, it's a good chance to make it to the tournament proper after their famous win over Ireland.

If the second match of the day – between Bangladesh and Ireland – is also rained off, then Oman will fight it out with Bangladesh for the lone qualifier spot from the group.
