Shahid Afridi not to be sacked as skipper for ICC World T20: PCB

New Delhi: While several voices have asked for Shahid Afridi's immediate sacking post a forgettable show in Asia Cup 2016, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has backed their T20I skipper in this time of crisis.

PCB chief Shaharyar Khan said that the board had no plans to remove him as skipper for the mega tournament.

“I promised Shahid Afridi that he will be retained as Pakistan captain until the end of the World T20,” he said.

Geo News reported that Afridi had not shown up for training on Thursday and also skipped the one before the Bangladesh match leading to a run down from Waqar.

But the PCB released an audio message of the head coach from Dhaka in which he expressed surprise and disappointment over the news being aired by some channels.

“I don’t know from where these speculative things come up because nothing of this sort happened. These baseless reports only hurt the team, country and us,” Waqar said.

Pakistan were bowled out for 83 runs against India in the continental tournament and were knocked out by hosts Bangladesh.
