India need to ‘control’ Ponting in Boxing Day Test: Kapil Dev
Melbourne: Indian legend Kapil Dev has reckoned that veteran Australian batsman Ricky Ponting is still the prized wicket in the upcoming Test series.
``Ricky Ponting is the most important player. He is an experienced player and if India can control him then we can control Australia. Remember, experience always comes in handy in the long run. He has scored enough runs against us and is due for a big score.`` A leading daily quoted Dev, as saying.
Ponting, 37, has not reached three figures in Test cricket for the past one year, and averaged only 26.63 in six Tests this year.
But he boasts of formidable Test record of 1216 runs at 59.72 in 15 matches in the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Ponting has scored 1349 runs at an average of 79.35 against India.
