Did India pay price for complacency against Bangla Tigers?

New Delhi: When these two teams met in the ICC Cricket World Cup earlier this year, MS Dhoni-led Indian team thrashed Mashrafe Mortaza and his boys convincingly by 109 runs.

High on confidence with that win, Team India probably hit the field with the same mindset in the first ODI at Shere Bangla National Stadium.

Even though they have caused several upsets in the past, including the famous win over India in the 2007 World Cup, Team India wasn't probably expecting the kind of aggression Bangladesh showed in front of their home crowd on Thursday.

After a cautious start, Tamim Iqbal (60) and Soumya Sarkar (54) ripped apart the Indian bowling line up, hitting them all over the ground with their fearless approach. It was the 102-run opening stand between these two which set the tone for the hosts to aim for a formidable total.

In reply, even though Rohit Sharma (63) and Shikhar Dhawan (30) provided a solid 95-run stand for the first-wicket partnership, the middle-order collapsed like a pack of cards.

Despite the presence of Taskin Ahmed and Rubel Hossain in their ranks, it was debutant left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman who deflated the star-studded Indian batting line-up with a five-wicket haul.

With two matches remaining, India would have realised that they can no more take their opponents lightly and will have to play their best cricket to make a comeback in the series.
