Haryana managed to escape with a draw after losing six wickets in the final session in their second innings that set the hopes of a result in the four-day practice match at Ahmedabad alive. They lost six wickets after England XI declared their second innings setting them a target of 442 runs. Sandeep Singh was the last wicket to fall on the final day. He scored 7 (36b, 4X1) before being caught by Prior off Onions. The match ended in a draw. ==================================================================================== HARYANA (2nd innings) Overs: 27 II Score: 96/5 Haryana have lost half of their side and were struggling to save the match on 96/5. England XI removed three of their batsmen in a space of just eight runs. Opener Nitin Saini scored 50 (84b, 9X4) before being caught behind off Monty Panesar. The quick wickets have turned the contest alight with the visiting team fancying their chances. ==================================================================================== HARYANA (2nd innings) Overs: 16 II Score: 73/2 Chasing a mammoth target of 442 runs to win, Haryana have lost the wicket of first innings centurion Rahul Dewan and Sachin Rana. The former was trapped in front after scoring 13 by Meaker while the latter fell to Patel scoring just 5. ==================================================================================== TEA REPORT England had useful batting practice ahead of their first cricket Test as they declared their second innings at 254 for six to take an overall 441-run lead at tea on the fourth and final day. England declared midway into the second session as soon as star batsman and first innings centurion Kevin Pitersen was out for a two-ball duck of the bowling of off-spinner Jayant Yadav. Captain Alastair Cook, who was batting on 2, then ended their innings at 254 for six. The visitors added 33 runs to their lunch score of 221 for two. They played 11.2 overs in the session and 75.2 overall, scoring at the rate of 3.37 runs per over. Pacer Sanjay Budhwar scalped three quick wickets before Yadav removed Pietersen. Ian Bell was the first to go in the middle session on 48 of the bowling of Budhwar who then claimed the wickets of Tim Bresnan (14) and Samit Patel (0). In their second innings, Haryana were 73 for two in chase of an improbable 442 runs for a win as the match expectedly headed for a draw. Haryana lost first innings centurion Rahul Dewan (13) and Sachin Rana (5) in successive overs as they were reduced to 45 for two after facing 10.5 overs. Opener Nitin Saini was going strong on 42 while Sunny Singh was giving him company on 11. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (2nd innings) Overs: 75.2 II Score: 254/6 (Declared) England XI declared their second innings at 254/6 after their sixth wicket fell in the form of Kevin Pietersen. The first innings centurion lasted only two balls before being caught by Chanderpal Saini off Jayant Yadav. Left-arm pacer Sanjay Budhwar was the pick of the bowler taking 3/51. ==================================================================================== LUNCH REPORT Jonathon Trott struck a century as England piled on 221 for two at lunch to extend their lead to 408 runs on the fourth and final day of their warm-up game against Haryana. Trott, overnight 61, retired after scoring 101 to give batting practice to his other colleagues in England's final tour game before the first Test begins here on November 15. Wicket-keeper Matt Prior, however, did not last long as he was run out for just two of the third ball he faced. The other batsman out was opener Nick Compton (79), who added 25 runs to his overnight score of 54 before being out of the bowling of Sachin Rana midway into the morning session. At the break, Ian Bell was batting on 32 with the help of five fours from 43 balls and Tim Bresnan was giving him company without opening his account after England resumed the day at 118 for no loss. Trott, who hit 13 fours and a six in his 183-ball stay at the crease before making way for another batsman, put on 44 more runs today with Compton and 162 runs in total for the opening wicket before the latter was out. England added 103 runs in 26 overs in the morning session at a healthy run rate of just a fraction less than four per over. England have faced 64 overs so far in their second innings. Haryana bowlers had to toil hard for the second time in the match, having allowed England to pile on 521 in the visitors' first innings. Sachin Rana was the only successful bowler as he took the wicket of Compton. England were ahead by 188 runs in the first innings. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (2nd innings) Overs: 64 II Score: 221/2 Jonathan Trott completed his century before retiring. He scored 101 (183b, 13X4 1X6). Matt Prior came in his place and could only score two runs before being run out by Jayant Yadav. Compton scored 79 (153b, 10X4) before he was caught by wicketkeeper Nitin Saini. ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (2nd innings) Overs: 50 II Score: 157/0 Haryana bowlers failed to make any breakthrough as England XI extended their lead by 344 runs after the first hour of play on the final day. The overnight opening pair of Jonathan Trott and Nick Compton were both batting on 75 and had faced identical number of deliveries (150). ==================================================================================== ENGLAND (2nd innings) Overs: 38 II Score: 118/0 Jonathan Trott and Nick Compton took England XI’s score past 100 runs without any hiccups with each completing his half-century. At stumps on Day 3, Trott was unbeaten on 61 (117b, 10X4) while Compton was batting on 54 (111b, 7X4) ==================================================================================== DAY 3: REVIEW Rahul Dewan struck an impressive unbeaten 143 but England bowled out Haryana for 333 and then extended their lead to 306 runs on the back of half-centuries from their openers in the second innings, here on Saturday. Jonathan Trott was rock solid on 61 and giving him company was Nick Compton (54) as England reached 118 without loss at the end of the penultimate day of the warm up game. Haryana`s middle order collapsed and all they could mange was 333 after resuming the day at 172 for four as they handed England a 188-run lead.
