India vs England: Virat Kohli & Co register eight-wicket win in 3rd Test to take 2-0 lead

Chandigarh: Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team defeated England by eight wickets in the third Test to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. At the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, India chased down the 103-run target in 20.2 overs on Day 4 of the match.

Parthiv Patel made the chase look easy with a brilliant 67-run knock. Parthiv, who replaced injured Wriddhiman Saha for the third Test, hammered the English bowlers to all parts of the ground during his impressive knock.

It was a historic win for the Indian team as it was way back in 1993 that an Indian team won two consecutive Tests against England.

Resuming play at 78 for four, England lost their next wicket in the second over of the day when Ravindra Jadeja trapped Gareth Batty in front of the wicket.

Before England could recover from the early loss, Kohli surprised everybody by introducing Jayant Yadav ahead of his go-to man R Ashwin. But Jayant, who has impressed everybody with his all-round skills, struck in his first over to dismiss Jos Buttler, who was caught at midwicket.

Root and Woakes followed the dismissal with a 45-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Root was looking on his way to another Test hundred before he was caught brilliantly at slips by Ajinkya Rahane off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling.

While spinners got the early breakthroughs for India on Day 4, Mohammed Shami soon got into action. The pacer bowled a brilliant over where he dismissed Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid. Shami first bowled a quick bouncer to Woakes and it hit him on the right of the helmet. Both Shami and Kohli went up to the English all-rounder to see if he was all right. But the very next ball was once again a bouncer, Woakes got his eyes off it, and holed it behind the wicket where Parthiv held on to an easy catch. One ball later, Shami sent Adil Rashid back to the pavilion.

Haseeb Hameed, who didn't open the innings due to an injury in his hand, fought hard to take his side to a respectable total. England's last wicket fell when James Anderson was run-out which gave India a 103-run target.
