Saha, Jadeja restart from where they had left yesterday. Though too early, but Kiwis not getting the same help from the pitch as Day 1.

At stumps on Day 1, the last pair of recognized batsmen Ravindra Jadeja and Wriddhiman Saha were batting on a score of 0 and 14 respectively.

Batting through the tricky first session will be challenging task for the Indian tail as Kiwi seamers would want to repeat yesterday's heroics when they picked up 3 wickets in quick succession.

Day 1 started with New Zealand seamers getting the better of both Indian openers – Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay – before sending the Indian skipper Virat Kohli packing too.

Opting to bat first, India lost three wickets in the pre-lunch session to totter at lowly score of 46/3.

It was Cheteshwar Pujara with a brilliant 87 and Ajinkya Rahane with 77, whom India have to thank for reaching a fine total of 239 by stumps.

The duo accelerated the tempo in the last session, before Pujara got out 49 minutes into the post-tea session. Kiwi spinner Jeetan Patel plotted Ajinkya Rahane's dismissal with an excellent flatter delivery that trapped him before the wicket.

Both batsmen would be uhappy having missed out on golden opportunities to score respective centuries.

A lot was expected from Rohit Sharma, who is known for his exploits at Eden Gardens, but all he could manage was a total of 2 runs before heading back to the dressing room.

Both Henry and Trent Boult stuck to a well thought out plan, maintaining an accurate line on or just outside the off-stump.

For the visitors, Matt Henry (3/35) and Jeetan Patel (2/66) were the most successful bowlers, though Trent Boult (1/33) also troubled the Indian batsmen a lot and maintained pressure.

India made two changes from the team that played the first Test at Kanpur. Shikhar Dhawan replaced the injured Lokesh Rahul, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar was prefered to Umesh Yadav.
