They played extremely well in the first four days. We showed a lot of mental strength not to fade away.” Indian skipper MS Dhoni also looks quite satisfied with the overall performance of the team as he said: “Happy with India's performance. Overall it was a fantastic display of bowling from out side in both the innings. Out batsmen Pujara, Virat batted beautifully, even Vijay also played the new ball well. It's a big positive for us. ================================================================ Over 136 || Score 450/7 A nerve-wrecking match finally ended in a Draw. Both the teams have had their chances on the final day of the first Test to seal the game, but failed to go one up in the two-match Test series. Du Plessis and AB scored their centuries and added 205-run partnership for the fifth wicket on the final day, which was certainly the highlight of the day. Two wickets of AB and Duminy in back-to-back overs took India back into the match but Philander 's unbeaten knock of 25 runs made sure that the match ended in a draw. It was a fantastic day of Test cricket, where the match could have been won by any of the two teams till the last over. It went to the wire and finally ended in a draw. ================================================================ Over 135 || Score 442/7 Last over has left and South Africa need 16 runs, as Zaheer bowled a maiden last over. ================================================================ Over 134|| Score 442/7 First test has been converted into an ODI, as the hosts need 16 runs in last two overs. ================================================================ Over 133|| Score 442/7 Finally India got his man. Du Plessis got run out. du Plessis went for a single which was not there and a direct hit from Rahane positioned at mid off sent the century maker back to the pavilion. 16 required from last three overs, whereas Indian need just three more wickets. F du Plessis run out 134 (309b) ================================================================ Over 132|| Score 438/6 In the 132nd over, Philander first collected two runs in the first ball and then smacked the short ball from Shami towards mid-wicket for a boundary to collect his third boundary of the innings. Then came two easy singles from the over. South Africa need 20 runs in 24 balls. ================================================================Over 131 || Score 430/6 It can still be anyone's game. du Plessis is the man for South Africa who can still take the game away from India. Vernon Philander is the next man in after the fall of sixth South African wicket. Philander has collected two fours in this innings and is looking dangerous. Mind it, he can bat too. What a Test match! Last five overs are left and all three results are possible. South Africa need 28runs to win the match whereas the tourists are still shy of four wickets. ================================================================ Over 126 || Score 411/6 In the last over before drinks AB completed his 18th Test century by placing Zaheer over third man for a single. It's his third Test hundred against India. He smashed 12 boundaries to reach the 100-run mark. A magnificent knock by the 29-year-old. In the next over du Plessis collected a four off Ishant to complete the 200-run partnership for the fifth wicket with AB. Meanwhile the hosts crossed the mark of 400 runs as well. Nothing going in India's favour. Finally, India got two breakthroughs in the form of AB and JP Duminy. And India is back in the game. Both the batsmen played on to the stumps. First Ishant strike for India and then Shami took the next wicket in the form of JP Duminy. Last 10 overs have left in the test and tourists are just four wickets shy of a victory whereas the hosts required 47 runs to seal the game. JP Duminy b Mohammed Shami 5 (8m 9b) AB de Villiers b I Sharma 103 (239m 168b) ================================================================ Over 120 || Score 389/4 What a Test match! Two top ranked Test teams are up against each other, we are on the fifth day of the first Test, hardly 15 overs have left in this Test match and it still can be anyone's game. What an interesting game to watch for the cricket lovers all around the globe. South Africa still have an upper hand, but you never know a wicket or two can still change the fortunes of the game in India's favour. After du Plessis, now AB is heading towards his hundred as he has crossed the mark of 90 runs. South Africa need 69 to seal the match in last 15 overs. ================================================================ Over 113 || Score 360/4 Du Plessis flicked Zaheer over mid-wicket in 113th over and the completed his third Test hundred. It has come at a time when his team needed it the most. What an innings by 29-year-old. He showed great discipline in this innings and scored 12 boundaries to score this hundred. A solid knock by the right-hander. South Africa are just 98 runs shy of wining this match and they still have 21 overs to achieve this target. India still need six wickets to seal the match. ================================================================ Over 108 || Score 336/4 India still have a good chance of to turn the match in their favour. They just need a wicket or two to get on top of the match. Two factors – one is the choking habit of Proteas and second they have one batsmen short as Morkel is injured – can still change the fortunes of the game. But at the moment du Plessis and AB de Villiers are looking solid in the middle. They have added 140-odd runs for the fifth wicket. du Plessis has reached to 90-runs mark and must be eyeing for a hundred here, whereas AB is playing on 75. Hosts are still 122 runs away from victory. And it can still be anyone's game. ================================================================ Over 100 || Score 314/4 It seems as if the hosts have now decided to chase the target rather than saving the Test match. In between South Africa have crossed the mark of 300 runs in their second innings. AB de Villiers and du Plessis are scoring boundaries at will now. They are not missing a single chance to score a boundary of a loose delivery. Indian bowlers are looking totally off-colour at the moment. MS Dhoni, who is known for his cricketing acumen has tried everything he can to break this partnership but nothing has worked out for him – at least for now. 35 overs have left on the last day of the first test, tourists still need six wickets whereas South Africa are just 144 runs away from victory. ================================================================ Over 91|| Score 286/4 AB de Villiers is on a roll here. He has completed his fifty in the 88th over in style by hitting Shami for a boundary and then celebrated it with another boundary on the next. He has been dealing in boundaries at the moment and looking quite dangerous. India is searching for a breakthrough from quite some time now and if they need to seal the first Test match they have to break this partnership as quickly as possible. In the first over after Drinks du Plessis got the outside edge off Ishant Sharma and collected another boundary. South Africa need 172 runs in 44 overs and they still have six wickets in hand. ================================================================ Over 83 || Score 260/4 Now India need six more wickets to seal the first match, whereas South Africa need 200-odd runs in 52 overs. At the moment AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis are playing Indian bowlers quite comfortably. In the 81st over AB collected two fours off Zaheer Khan. Mohammed Shami has brought back into the attack in the next over and du Plessis pull his short ball to collect another boundary and with that completed his fifty as well. Now India desperately need to break this partnership which has already added 60-odd runs for the fifth wicket. ================================================================ Over 70|| Score 227/4 After the fall of Kallis’ wicket the hosts would be eyeing for a draw now, whereas India from here on would look to take the remaining wickets to make history. After the fall of fourth wicket, AB has come to the middle to join du Plessis. Kohli has been given the ball. Dhoni is trying different things here, which mean he is looking for another wicket here to create more pressure on the opponents. South Africa have the tendency to choke and Dhoni would love to see it once again to take the 1-0 lead against the world number one team. ================================================================ Over 61 || Score 202/4 Kallis was playing beautifully and was hitting hard, scoring 34 runs off 37 balls, before falling to Zak. Kallis’ short and quick innings came to an end in the 61st over. Zaheer Khan gets his 300th wicket. This is a big wicket for India. South Africa need 253 runs to win the match. Kallis lbw b Khan 34 (37b, 6x4) ================================================================ Over 55 || Score 165/3 Zaheer Khan was introduced into the bowling attack in the 54th over. Kallis is going for big shots, hitting three fours, one a brilliant extra cover drive, indicating his abilities to handle his team’s reigns efficiently when in need. The Indians need more wickets as an in-form Kallis can be dangerous to them. ================================================================ Over 50 || Score 145/3 India have got an early break through right in the first five overs of the match. Petersen is out. Shami, in the 50th over, trapped him in the front. Dhoni would be a happy man. India is 7 wickets away from win. Jacques Kallis is the new man in. Petersen b Mohammed Shami 76 (162b, 9x4) ================================================================ Day five is going to be the decider. While the hosts will look to either score the required 320 runs or draw the series, the Indians will leave no stone unturned to get those 8 wickets and register a 1-0 lead in the series. Day Four Round-up South Africa, 2nd Innings Over 45 || Score 138/2 While AB de Villiers bowled an over in India’s second innings, it was time for MS Dhoni to show that he too could bowl. The Indian skipper bowled two out of the last four overs. So South Africa couldn’t capitalise much on the century-partnership for the first wicket, as India bounced back to pick two quick wickets. The equation is quite simple now, we have one day remaining, India need eight wickets to win the Test, South Africa need 320 runs. It should be another fascinating day of Test cricket on the final day in Johannesburg. ================================================================
