Indo-Pak series at discussion stage, many issues yet to be resolved: BCCI

New Delhi: BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur on Wednesday told reported that the India-Pakistan bilateral series was only at the discussion stage for now.

Speaking at a press conference to announce Team India's squad for the Bangladesh tour, Thakur said that the BCCI and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had to resolve many issues in order to go ahead with the series.

As per ICC's Future Tours Program (FTP), India and Pakistan were scheduled to play a bilateral series in December.

“The decision on the India-Pakistan bilateral series is likely to be taken after June 15”, stated Thakur, in a report published in Times of India earlier in the week.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed to hold the series in the neutral venue of Dubai, but before any final decision is taken some issues between BCCI and PCB need to be looked into,” he added.

It seems that the Indian government and cricket board are trying to sort out all the issues before giving a green signal for the series.

PCB chief Shahryar Khan met Thakur, BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya as well as finance and information minister Arun Jaitley, which fuelled speculation of the two countries resuming their cricketing ties.

Khan stated after the meeting that his country was hopeful of reviving ties with arch-rivals India with a series in December. However, he made it clear that there is no green signal from the Government of India yet.

"It was a successful tour and I met (Jagmohan) Dalmiya and (Arun) Jaitley to talk about the revival of Indo-Pak series," Khan told reporters. "Jaitley told me that he feels that the green light will be given. It`s not given yet but will be given in the next two months," said Khan.
