Toss: Gautam Gambhir has won the toss and he has decided to bat first.
Abu Dhabi: Live updates from the first IPL match to be played between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Abu Dhabi.
Mumbai did exceptionally well in 2013, where they won their maiden IPL title and also went on to win the Champions League. Mumbai had retained their five key players ahead of the IPL auction, and also managed to bag two new big players – Michael Hussey and Corey Anderson. While the Australian left-hander has had a terrific run with the Chennai Super Kings, the Kiwi all-rounder has already earned a reputation of being a quality all-rounder. The bowling will be once again spearheaded by Lasith Malinga, while Harbhajan Singh will handle the spin department.
Key signings: Michael Hussey, Corey Anderson
Strength: The overall strength of Mumbai Indians lies in the collective experience of veterans like Michael Hussey, Zaheer Khan, Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh. With all-rounders in the form of Kieron Pollard and Corey Anderson, the team has an ability to waylay any attack.
Weakness: Now that they don’t have the services of Dwayne Smith, Mumbai Indians lack an explosive batsman at the top of the order. Aditya Tare has got them to some quick starts in the past, but he is not someone who has been consistent with it.
Probable playing eleven: Aditya Tare, Rohit Sharma, Michael Hussey, Ambati Rayudu, Corey Anderson, Kieron Pollard, Apoorv Wankhede, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Zaheer Khan, Lasith Malinga

Kolkata on the other hand would want to make a fresh start after a poor show last year. The onus will once again be on Gautam Gambhir, who has been very consistent with the bat. The team management has once again shown faith in South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis, who has retired from Test cricket to prolong his career in ODIs. In the bowling department, Kolkata have a maverick spinner is Sunil Narine and the likes of Shakib al Hasan and Balaji would only strengthen their bowling attack.
Key signings: Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, Chris Lynn, Morne Morkel, Pat Cummins, Umesh Yadav, Vinay Kumar.
Strength: If you look at the KKR squad for IPL 7, you might think they haven`t made much changes, until you reach the list of the pacers. KKR spent heavily to buy pace bowlers and succeeded in getting Morkel, Pat Cummins, Umesh Yadav, VRV Singh and Vinay Kumar.
Weakness: Even though Kolkata once again showed immense faith in Jacques Kallis, the South African legend is probably not the right player for the shortest format of the game now, as he takes his time initially to score runs and if he fails, the team comes under pressure considering the balls he consumes. They also rely hugely on Gambhir, and in case if he is dismissed early, the chances of KKR fighting back are rare.
Probable playing eleven: Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Jacques Kallis, Shakib Al Hasan, Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Andre Russel, Sunil Narine, Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav, Vinay Kumar
