IPL 8 auction: Daredevils splurge 16 crores for Yuvraj Singh; no buyers for Kumar Sangakkara, Hashim Amla

In the fresh auction, India discard Yuvraj Singh, England discard Kevin Pietersen and wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik along with South African cricketer Hashim Amla have attracted the highest base price of Rs 2 crore.

New Delhi: As it happened last year, the highlight of the auction was Yuvraj Singh – who was bought by Delhi Daredevils for a whopping sum of Rs 16 crores. The all-rounder might not have impressed the Indian selectors who dropped him from India's 30-man World Cup squad, but the IPL franchises probably knew his worth, and his ability to win matches single-handedly in limited-overs cricket.

While Angelo Mathews (7.5 cr to DD), Dinesh Karthik (10.5 cr to RCB) were also bought for hefty sums, the talk of the auction was unheralded spinner KC Cariappa who was bought for 2.4 crores by Kolkata Knight Riders.

While the established Indian players would be delighted with the money spent on them, it was a sad say for the likes of Hashim Amla, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene who went unsold, despite being world class cricketers.
