M Chinnaswamy Stadium (Bengaluru)

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium was built on land owned by the Indian army and was named after M Chinnaswamy, president of the Indian cricket board between 1977 and 1980. Initially, the stadium was named as Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium. However, it was then renamed after M Chinnaswamy, who ran Karanataka cricket for approximately four decades.

The venue was granted Test status in 1974-75 when it hosted the opening match between India and the West Indies.

That famous Test match is often remembered for the debut of two cricket legends - Gordon Greenidge and Viv Richards. The stadium is historically linked to Indian cricket as Sunil Gavaskar played his final Test innings against Pakistan here.

Floodlights were installed at the ground for the first time in 1996 when it hosted the epic quarter-final clash between India and Pakistan in the World Cup.

However, in recent years, visiting sides have enjoyed playing in Bengaluru, registering some memorable records.

The stadium has also housed India’s National Cricket Academy since 2000.

Apart from being home to the Royal Challengers in the Indian Premier League, this venue hosts Ranji champions Karnataka's home matches in domestic cricket.
