Kolkata: Trounced by team India for the fourth consecutive time in the five-match ODI series, a livid Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews Thursday conceded it was "embarrassing" for the islanders not to have competed at all.

Mathews blamed his side for conceding a whopping 290 runs in the last 25 overs for their latest thrashing by the Indians by 153 runs at the Eden Gardens here.

"It's embarrassing that we are not even competing against India. In the past four games, we haven't competed at all. Today, we lost the way in the last 25 overs when India scored about 290 runs which is not acceptable in this format of the game," he said after the match.

Praising star Indian batsman Rohit Sharma for his record breaking 264-run innings, Mathews said his bowlers had no answers for the Indian batsmen and also castigated his butter-fingered fielders.

"We need to fix our problems. We cannot go on like this, we need to bat well, field well and bowl well," he said.
