List of players who have scored double tons in ODI cricket

New Delhi: Double tons have become a regular phenomenon in ODI cricket as this time it was New Zealand's Martin Guptill who defined supremacy in Wellington in an intense semi-final clash on Saturday against the West Indies in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2015. He scored an unbeaten 237 runs to defy the Windies as New Zealand reached the semis.

In the history of international cricket, only five players have managed to achieve the feat of scoring a double ton in One Day Internationals. Interestingly, three of them are Indians – Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma.

However, Chris Gayle was the new name in the list as he scored a brutal double century, the first in the history of World Cup against Zimbabwe in the 15th Match of the ICC World Cup 2015.

Gayle, who could score just 40 runs in the first two innings of the prestigious event, made a mockery of the Zimbabwe bowling attack and also created history by becoming the only non-Indian cricketer to score a double ton in ODIs.

He was finally dismissed for 215 and his innings comprised of ten boundaries and 16 sixes.

Rohit Sharma had created history by achieving the feat for the second time in his career. First, the 27-year-old took mere 151 balls to reach the 200-run mark, laced with 26 boundaries and five sixes. And then, the stylish right-hander went on to score the highest individual score in ODIs, as he scored 264 runs off 173 balls with the help of 33 boundaries and nine sixes, against the toothless Lankan attack.

Sharma had scored his maiden double ton against Australia at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on November 2, 2013, where he scored 209 runs and helped India seal the series 3-2.

However, the first player to score a double ton in limited-overs cricket was none other than the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster, scored the double century against South Africa and remained unbeaten on 200, at Captain Roop Singh Stadium, Gwalior on February 24, 2010.

The second player to cross the 200-run mark in 50-over cricket was Virender Sehwag, who went on to score 219 runs against West Indies in Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore in December 8, 2011.
