Martin Guptill: When the New Zealander chased ODI total in T20 mode!

New Delhi: At a time when his contemporaries have announced retirement from international cricket, New Zealand's Martin Guptill is becoming a better player month after month.

Guptill made a mockery of Sri Lanka's total of 117 runs in the 2nd ODI at Christchurch as he bludgeoned unbeaten 93 runs off just 30 balls.

Not in his wildest dreams would have Angelo Mathews imagined that his team's total, despite being paltry, would be chased in just 8.2 overs! Guptill, along with his partner Tom Latham (17*), tore the Sri Lankan attack into pieces in an incredible display of powerful batting.

Guptill fell inches short of breaking AB de Villiers' record of fastest ODI ton which came off 31 balls.

He might be 30, but Guptill's innings comprised of strokes would put youngsters to shame.

With the ICC World Twenty20 just few months away, the Auckland-born cricketer has already sent a warning for bowlers ahead of the prestigious tournament.
