More trouble for Amrapali Group as Mohammad Kaif drags its unit to court over 'bounced' cheques

New Delhi: It is no secret that flat buyers are facing a tough time in the National Captial Region

Now one can include even former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif to the list of people unhappy with the ongoing situation.

According to a report on Mail Online India, Kaif has taken real estate company Amrapali to court for a cheque dishonor worth Rs 50 lakh. 

Two cheques issued by M/S Ultra Home Construction Private Limited, a subsidiary of Amrapali Group, in 2015 bounced, forcing the cricketer-turned-commentator to knock on the court's door.

The petition was filed before the Patiala House court. 

“He was invited by the group to invest. He had given loan to the tune of R 2 crore. When the time came to return the amount, three cheques — two cheques of Rs 50 lakh and a cheque of Rs 1 crore, issued in his name, bounced. At the moment two separate cases of cheque bounce of Rs 50 lakh are being heard by the trial court,” Kaif's advocate AN Aggarwala was quoted as saying in the report.

The former India U-19 captain's petition also stated that the company paid quarterly interest in the form of assured returns, but the cheque issued towards clearing the ‘Principle Amount’ got dishonored. 

India skipper MS Dhoni earlier in the month resigned as brand ambassador of the company.

After being trolled on social media by residents of an Amprapali housing project angry over incomplete work, Dhoni said he would take up the matter with the builder.

The complaints from the residents of its Saphhire project in Noida, on suburbs of New Delhi, had gone viral on Twitter over the past few days after they tagged Dhoni in their tweets asking the cricketer to disassociate himself from the builder or force the company to ensure completion of pending work.

The first phase of Sapphire, which was launched in 2009, has been completed and about 800 families have moved in out of 1,000 flats, but civil and electrical work in many towers is still incomplete, according to the residents.
