Hyderabad: England all-rounder Chris Woakes, who played a crucial role in his team`s warm-up match victory over Hyderabad XI, conceded that his team did not bat well in the game but was s confident that the line-up would fire when the ODI series against India gets underway from October 14.
England lost their top four batsmen within 50 runs before Woakes (46) and Ravi Bopara (73) took the visitors to 219, which was enough for a 56-run triumph in the end against Hyderabad XI last night.
"We would obviously have loved to put up a bigger score. They fielded very well and pulled off some brilliant catches. There was some poor shot selection. We are not worried. It was a decent win in the end," Woakes said.
Woakes also scalped two wickets for 30 runs in the match. Talking about his batting partnership with Bopara, Woakes said, "We (Bopara and I) had a good partnership going and we adjusted well to the conditions. Obviously it would be nice to bat higher up the order. But whatever the slot, it doesn`t matter much."
He hoped that his good performance would consolidate his position in the England team. Asked how different it was to bowl with two new balls, he felt that it is good for the game and he was looking forward to use that in the coming games.
England would play another warm-up match on October 11 in the run-up to the first ODI against India on October 14.
