Lahore: PCB might retain its interim coach Mohsin Khan for Pakistan`s next series against Bangladesh in December as it negotiates with a "foreigner" for the position of permanent head coach of the national team.
An official in the board said that while Mohsin was an option to continue as coach for the tour to Bangladesh in December, but lot of progress had been made on hiring a new head coach to replace Waqar Younis who had stepped down in September due to personal and health reasons. "We are in advanced stages of talks with a prospective candidate who has been picked from the short list of candidates recommended by the committee that was formed by the board to scrutinize and recommend a new head coach," the official said. But a reliable source said since the candidate shortlisted for the job was a foreigner, the final appointment could be delayed for a while. "It is in that scenario that the PCB had put Mohsin on standby to continue as interim coach for the Bangladesh series," the source said. Mohsin is with the Pakistan team as its interim coach in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka in UAE as the PCB had a change of Chairman and the process to appoint a permanent head coach was delayed. The source also said that PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf while keen on appointing a batting, bowling and fielding coach for the national team, had decided their appointments would be made with consultation of the new head coach. "The specialist coaches for support staff will only be finalised after the head coach is appointed and he gives his input as well," the source said. PTI
