Performance key to getting back into Oz squad: Haddin

Sydney: Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Brad Haddin is aware that he has to perform very well during the Australian summer if he wants to unseat incumbent first choice keeper Matthew Wade in the national squad.

Haddin has no plans to hang up the gloves but knows he faces a stiff challenge from the younger Wade for the wicketkeeper`s role. Deputising for Haddin in the Caribbean, Wade did his cause no harm with a fine debut series, culminating in his maiden century in the third Test against the West Indies. “He had a good tour of West Indies. From what I`ve watched, his game`s getting better and better. From that point of view, yeah, he`s ready,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Haddin, as saying in Cape Town before flying to Durban, where the Sydney Sixers will play Mumbai in their final group match of the T20 Champions League. According to the paper, Haddin`s early-season form is proof he will not readily relinquish his position behind the stumps, a role he has held in the Test side for much of the past four years after succeeding Adam Gilchrist. “The only currency to getting picked for Australia is performance and, from my point of view, that`s all you can do,” he said.” “The selectors decide what they need to decide when the time comes. From my point of view, if you`re performing you get a look-in, if you`re not, you don`t deserve it,” he added. ANI
