Dubai: Former Australia skipper Ian Chappell feels Ricky Ponting should not share his captaincy tricks with newly-appointed captain Michael Clarke and should give him a free hand in making his own decisions.
Chappell feels Clarke was the right man to lead Australia after Ponting stepped down following the team`s quarterfinal exit from the cricket World Cup last month.
"I think Michael Clarke was the right bloke to take over, he`s made a good start (winning the series in Bangladesh) but it`s not how you start it`s how you progress," he said.
"I don`t think Ponting should be sharing his captaincy tricks, Michael Clarke should be doing things his own way, it`s pointless having the captain resign if he`s advising the terms to the new captain," said Chappell in the ICC cricket world radio show.
In his first assignment as skipper, Clarke led Australia to a crushing 3-0 win over Bangladesh in a three-match one-day series.
