New Delhi: Industrialist Sanjiv Goenka is looking to expand his sports venture by making a possible acquisiton of an overseas football team.

Goenka who co-owns Atletico de Kolkata in the Indian Super League (ISL), had bought Indian Premier League's new outfit Rising Pune Supergiants in December 2015. His franchise will play in the the cash-rich league from 2016-17.

According to a report in the Economic Times, Goenka is also looking to open a football academy in Kolkata. Goenka feels that investing at the grassroots level will help the youngsters who would want to pursue the sport as a career.

Further reports claim that Goenka has stated that he could be looking to pursue a foreign football team.

Goenka's planning of expanding his growth in the sports market shows that the industrialist is enjoying his association in this field.

His IPL cricket side Rising Pune Supergiants is one of the two teams that replaced the suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Pune, has invested wisely in the IPL 2016 auctions and it boasts of several high-profile names.

Pune is yet to name a sponsor and it is reported that Goenka Group's in-house brands like Spencers and CESC, are interested in bidding for the process like other brands.

Earlier, his co-owned team Atletico de Kolkata were crowned champions of the first edition of the ISL in 2014. They were also one of the four semi-finalists last season.
