SL Sports Minister appoints new selection committee

The Ministry of Sports of Sri Lanka on Thursday appointed a new selection committee for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which will be headed by former selection committee chairman Asantha de Mel.

Colombo: The Ministry of Sports of Sri Lanka on Thursday appointed a new selection committee for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), which will be headed by former selection committee chairman Asantha de Mel.
The four-member selection committee will include former national cricketers -- Amal Silva, Hemantha Wickremaratne and Don Anurasiri. While Silva is a former Test opener, Wickremaratne is a former ODI player and Anurasiri, a former Test left-arm spinner, is the sole survivor from the previous panel. The previous selection committee was headed by Duleep Mendis The minister also informed that a further move to change the captain and the head coach of the team is under consideration as well. The reshuffle came after Sport Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage ordered the chief of SLC, Upali Dharmadasa to submit a report on the sagging fortunes of the national team in South Africa. Sri Lanka are already 0-3 down in the five-match ODI series. PTI
