SLC interim committee to be dissolved tonight

The dissolution tonight will see democratic elections to the local governing body for the first time since 2004. The ministry said the dissolution is in line with the International Cricket Council directive that all member states must have elected bodies by 2012. The present interim committee headed by businessman Upali Dharmadasa was appointed in July. His committee replaced the previous committee headed by the former Test captain DS de Silva. The local governing body is being was run continuously by politically appointed interim committees since 2005. PTI
