Chepauk: Manoj Tiwary, who slammed his maiden ODI century at Chepauk against West Indies in the fifth and final match of the series on Sunday, dedicated the knock to the AMRI Hospital fire victims in Kolkata.
"I want to dedicate my man of the match award to all the
people who died in the Calcutta hospital tragedy. It was an
unfortunate incident and it should not have happened," Tiwary, who scored 104, his maiden century, before retiring hurt, said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Tiwary who made his debut way back in 2008 against Australia has been a part of five full fledged series and six ODIs. On Saturday, he got the rare opportunity to don the national colours. He justified is inclusion in the squad, playing to his potential cracking 104 of 121 deliveries but retiring hurt due to cramps to guide India to a total of 267 against West Indies.
A tragic fire broke out in the Advanced Medicare & Research Institute (AMRI) Hospital in Kolkata early Friday morning in which over 90 persons have reportedly died.
