Mumbai: With a flick that has a cuss word as its title, it was given that Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Kaminey’ would run into trouble with the censor board. Keeping in line with the current trend of pre release controversies, the film has landed in murky waters and is most likely to be released for restricted viewership and an A certificate. And it’s all owing to the heavy dose of violence and abusive language. Ever since the film was completed for release, Bhardwaj has been at loggerheads with the Censor Committee. The filmmaker who has been vying to get a UA certificate for his film has been met with tough resistance from the board. And even though the revising committee saw the film, they refused to give it the U/A certificate that he was hoping for. With this, the only options available to Vishal are that he can to go to the tribunal and seek legal help for his film, or release it with an A certificate. Confirming the news, a daily quoted a source as saying, “The examining committee saw the film and thought that the film had too much violence. They suggested major cuts. However, Vishal is not keen on brutally chopping the film and neither does he want an A certificate. So, the film was sent to the revising committee where Sharmila Tagore, the Chairperson, watched it with a panel of members in Delhi yesterday afternoon. However, after watching the film, it has been decided that the film will indeed have an A certificate. Vishal’s request for a U/A certificate has fallen on deaf ears.” Besides the violence and cussing in the film, the board is also concerned about the film’s dark theme that makes it unfit for larger audience. “There are some cuts in the film. Even the cuts have been made to be politically correct in certain places. However, the darkness of the film and the inherent violence, even though not onscreen, is felt powerfully due to the theme. The film is based on the underworld and the very nature of violence in the film is what the censors objected to”, adds the source. Well, an A certificate is bound to have a huge impact on the collections, and with Bhardwaj already promoting the release date, he seems to be left with little options than to cut the objectionable scenes.
