Woman softens stand on Amit Mishra's assault charge: Report

New Delhi: The case of Amit Mishra's alleged assault on a woman took a new turn when the latter appeared to have softened her stance on Wednesday.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the woman who accused Indian cricketer Amit Mishra of assault and abuse, said that she didn’t want him to “suffer too much”. Meanwhile, several contradictions in police action has seen the investigation get muddled up.

The woman, who is a hindi film producer, told some Kannada channels that she didn’t want to end Mishra’s career. This was a day after when news broke of her complaint to the police about Mishra's abuse and assault on her in a room of a hotel in Bengaluru on September 25.

Further reports suggest that, sources pointed out several divergent statements in a police action after the event. A senior officer told the Hindustan Times that Mishra was summoned on Tuesday, police records show the notice was sent on September 28, a day after the woman filed her complaint.

Mishra had been asked to appear before the police within a week, no action has been taken against the cricketer for failing to turn up.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central, Sandeep Patil, stated that authorities don't have enough grounds to make an arrest.

Police sources also denied earlier statements by senior officers that CCTV footage existed of the incident. They stated that the case depended on the hotel manager, who was called into the room by Mishra on the night of the incident.

The manager had allegedly told the police that Mishra was very angry and said the woman was sobbing. The cricketer had asked the manager to leave, saying they would sort the problem between themselves.
