Berlin: Bayern Munich are eager to offer head coach Pep Guardiola a contract extension, but first want the Spaniard to concentrate on leading the Bavarians to a third straight Bundesliga title.

Guardiola`s contract expires in June 2016 and Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he is only too keen to offer the 44-year-old extended terms.

Bayern won four titles and claimed last season`s Bundesliga crown with a record seven games to spare during Guardiola`s first year in charge having claimed the treble of Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup under predecessor Jupp Heynckes in 2013.

Bayern are on course to win the German league in a similarly fast fashion this year, and will resume their Bundesliga campaign at Wolfsburg next Friday holding an 11-point lead.

Guardiola won 14 titles in four years as Barcelona coach from 2008 until 2012, but is known for not wanting to commit to long-term contracts and Rummenigge says he will tread carefully.

"My opinion of him (Guardiola) is well known, I hope he stays at FC Bayern for as long as possible," Rummenigge told Munich-based newspaper TZ.

"But I won`t confront him with the issue until the second half of 2015.

"He still has one-and-a-half years on his contract and that is like light years for him."

"I don`t want to bog him down with discussions.

"At the start of the season, I outlined to him how a season usually pans out after a World Cup.

"He said to me: `Don`t worry, I have experience. We will have a good season`.

"I have total confidence in the man."
