London: Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech believes his team’s only chance to get back into the Premier League title race is when any other top team slip up.
“Our only chance to get back is when the top teams slips up. We must be ready,” a daily quoted him as saying.
Cech also reckons that it can take years for Chelsea to win a trophy and compared Chelsea with his national team Czechoslovakia.
“I have lived this in the last few years with the Czech national team. We had two generations of players who basically retired at the same time and it takes time to recover,” he added.
‘It took us nearly three years to rebuild the side and we are grateful we have managed to qualify for Euro 2012.”
He believes that the case with Chelsea and his national team are almost the same and would take years to bring back Chelsea on the same platform at which their rivals are standing.
‘Now you can see with Chelsea there have been changes in recent years, because you can`t stop a player`s age.”
‘We`ve also changed the manager and a bit of the philosophy too, so again it needs time,” he added. Chelsea has already entered a period of evolution with manager Andre Villas-Boas allowing Nicolas Anelka and Alex to leave.
Chelsea is currently lying fourth in the Premier League behind Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Spurs.
