New Delhi: Argentine football fans crossed all the limits on Sunday, when they not only insulted but even spat at their star footballer and national captain Lionel Messi, who was returning home after winning the Club World Championship, beating his country's club River Plate 3-0.
According to media reports, the 28-year-old Barcelona forward faced humiliation by River Plate supporters when he was travelling through Narita airport.
However, according to IANS, the River Plate officials strongly condemned the attack.
"There is always someone stupid, Messi is a gentleman,” said River president Luciano D'Onofrio.
Argentine media is said to be disgusted after the incident with ‘Ole’ a popular daily saying: "unfortunately the lack of respect knows no borders."
