New Delhi: Roy Hodgson's concerns over England's injury list worsened further, after midfielder Jordan Henderson limped off at a training session at St Jakob Park, on the eve of arguably their toughest fixture in the Euro 2016 qualifying section. England are up against Switzerland in a Group E qualifier, and the injury issues have put them further in a spot of bother. This was something Hodgson would have wanted the least ahead of such a crucial tie.
Henderson departed nursing a problem with his right ankle after turning away from a tackle, but he will undergo fitness tests before the match, though his participation looks less likely. Manchester City's James Milner, is expected to fill up the hole ahead of an inexperienced Fabian Delph in central midfield. Milner will play alongside Jack Wilshere as current problem has hit Hodgson's preparations. England are short of players at the moment and that will serve as a big blow against a team that is ranked ninth in the world.
Henderson joins fellow Liverpool teammates Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana alongside the likes of Theo Walcott, Michael Carrick, Jay Rodriguez and Andy Carroll in the lengthy injury list.
Defensive options Kyle Walker, Glen Johnson, Luke Shaw, Jon Flanagan, Chris Smalling and Kieran Gibbs are also unavailable, while West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster and uncapped Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback have withdrawn from the 22-man squad in recent days.
England are most likely to feature with a 4-2-3-1 formation and a midfield diamond and a lot of responsibility will shoulder upon the likes of Wayne Rooney, Jack Wilshere and Rahim Sterling.
Jordan Henderson has been a consistent figure in the England line-up after a dream season with Liverpool last season. After the international retirements of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, the Liverpool star is touted to be one of the leading players of the new generation, and his partnership alongside Wilshere is something England will surely miss.
