Majority of Three Lions fans made fortune by betting against England during Euro Cup

London: Most of the England fans made their bets against their own country, according to Betfair, a betting company.
The ongoing Euro has seen punters bet in excess of one billion, with most of it being bet against the Three Lions. Betfair boss Stephen Morana said customers were voting with their heads rather than their hearts, with less than a fifth backing England stars like Wayne Rooney to succeed in the Euros. The company has seen its revenues rise by 18 per cent in the past eight weeks, and profits for the year to April 30 were up 17 per cent to 85.7million pounds. “We’ve been really helped by the Euros. The level of interest in all games has been phenomenal. Lots of people are comfortable betting against England. Fewer people are betting for them than in past tournaments,” a newspaper quoted Morana, as saying. “We have seen as much interest in non-England games as England games. Customers have bet more than £1billion on the tournament so far,” he added. ANI
