Ferguson smokes peace pipe with Rooney after resolving row

London: Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is considering bringing striker Wayne Rooney back into the squad for the January 4 game at Newcastle after resolving a minor row with the player.

"Wayne hasn`t trained well this week. He has missed a few days but, hopefully, he will train and then, hopefully, be back for Wednesday," Ferguson said. Rooney was dropped from the squad over his lethargic display at the training session and reports of a row with Ferguson. "The issue has been dealt with and the players involved have been disciplined. That`s the end of it. There`s no rift between Wayne and the manager. The matter is closed and Wayne will be available for selection against Newcastle," a leading daily quoted a source, as saying. "There is no long-term problem between Wayne and the manager. Wayne wants to get on with his season now and doesn`t want to make a big deal of this," the source added. Rooney’s supporters echoed the same view, and dismissed the incident as minor in contrast to a bitter row, which almost led to Rooney’s exit 14 months ago. The move comes ahead of United’s Newcastle game and Football Association Cup’s third round against Manchester City. United is currently ranked second in the table and is trailing top-ranked City by three points. ANI
