Lille, a number of Europe's top clubs queued up to sign the Belgian, considered to be one of world football's hottest properties.
After much speculation, Hazard decided to join Chelsea, who had just won the UEFA Champions League. It was big news, especially since there was a wide consensus that this young attacking midfielder could be the next big thing.
The 23-year-old is in his third year at Stamford Bridge. He hasn't won a trophy yet. Hazard's personal form has improved year on year. In 34 appearances in 2012-13, he scored 9 goals and created 65 chances. He then topped that with 14 goals creating 92 chances in 35 appearances during the 2013-14 season.
However, the current season, promises to be his best one since his arrival in England. Powered by the Belgian, Chelsea are flying in the league and Hazard has already scored 2 goals and created 15 chances for his teammates in 7 appearances.
Despsite him arriving in England with a reputation of him not being a team player, Hazard's time at Chelsea has been relatively low-profile.
There were reports of him not getting along well with Jose Mourinho, especially after the Portuguese publicly criticized Hazard's lack of defensive discipline.
However, the Belgian believes criticism from the manager is another reason for spurt in his performances for the club.
Chelsea are now strong favorites to win the Premier League with Hazard looking increasing likely to explode into the special footballer everybody expected him to be. Despite his dazzling performances, the attacking midfielder feels he is not yet among best footballers in the world.
