I joined QPR for the money: Barton

London: Olympique de Marseille midfielder Joey Barton has ruled out a return to his parent club QPR after admitting that he only joined them for the money.

The 30-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at the French club but is yet to make his Ligue 1 bow due to the continuation of a ban he picked up following his red card against Manchester City on the final day of the last Premier League campaign. Barton has made it known that he is enjoying his time at Marseille and is set to see out the remainder of the campaign at Stade Velodrome, despite the dismissal of his former manager Mark Hughes. The former England international may be enjoying his football these days, but he was keen to emphasise that the move from Newcastle to QPR was purely motivated by lucre and one that he would not like to repeat. "When I went to QPR, it was a choice dictated by money. I didn`t like what I had done, and I swore I`d never do that again," he told The Mirror. "It was the first time in my life that I had taken a decision for money. I did it because my partner was due to give birth - but I did not feel good about it. "The more money you have, the more problems you have. When I was in prison I got €8.60 (£7) a week and that [was] simpler - you`d use it to buy food and that was it." Goal.com
