Is Angel di Maria the most expensive man in football history?

New Delhi: Angel di Maria on Thursday completed his move from Manchester United to Paris Saint-Germain.

The winger's deal saw £44.5m exchange hands between the two clubs to establish it as the biggest deal of this transfer window.

The Argentine has made habit of headlining transfer market deals with him doing the same in 2014 when Louis van Gaal smashed the British record to secure his services from Real Madrid.

With back-to-back blockbuster deals, the 27-year-old has now traveled to five clubs and been part of deals worth a whopping £132.9m.

It all dates back to 2007 when a young Di Maria was snapped up by Benefica from Rosario Central for £5.6m. Clearly headed to achieve bigger things, his impressive performances in Portugal attracted a successful bid of £23.1m from Real Madrid in 2010.

After spending nearly 4 years in the Spanish capital, Di Maria moved to Premier League giants Manchester United in 2014 for £59.7m, a British transfer record.

Having failed to justify the price tag during his brief stint at Old Trafford, the Argentina international has now moved on to his next football destination – Paris.

Whether he offers teams a big bang for their buck is a matter of debate. But Angel di Maria surely is clearly laughing all the way to the bank.
