Kolkata: The Kolkata club have found a replacement for Sanjoy Sen who resigned earlier citing personal reasons after leading the club back into the I-League.
Mohammedan Sporting have been a busy lot ever since they made their return to the I-League premier division this year.
The Black Panthers have signed Tolgey Ozbey and Penn Orji from Mohun Bagan and East Bengal respectively along with Luciano Sobrosa and Josimar from Salgaocar.
But the more pressing issue would be that they did not have a full-time coach after the resignation of Sanjoy Sen who led the Kolkata club back into the I-League from the second division.
However that conundrum has now been resolved as the club have announced that Nigerian Abdul Aziz Moshood will be the man in-charge of Mohammedan for next season.
The 44-year old is well-known in Finland for his work with Atlantis FC, a second division club in the country. He is renowned for his tough training and discipline.
The decision to appoint Moshood was taken in a club working committee meeting on Sunday.
“We have built a strong team for the coming season. With players like Tolgay Ozbey, Penn Orji, Luciano Sabrosa and Josimar in our ranks, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t do well in the Calcutta Football League (CFL). But we might have to take a harsh decision or two if the team don’t live up to expectations. So if the coach impresses (at the CFL), his contract will definitely be extended. Else, we’ve to do otherwise,” a senior Mohammedan Sporting official told The Telegraph.
So the heat is on the Nigerian even before he takes up his new assignment in India.
