New Delhi: One of the greatest football stadiums, Santiago Bernabeu will have a commercial name to it. According to reports, the home to Real Madrid will now be known as Abu Dhabi Bernabeu, thanks to a huge financial opportunity which the world's most successful club couldn’t ignored.
Spanish newspaper AS reported on Wednesday that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has already agreed to the renaming of the sacred stadium with a new sponsorship deal with Abu Dhabi—via the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC), who are a third party investment company.
The report further said that last November, Perez mentioned at the Bernabeu to local politician, Lucia Figar: “The Bernabeu will be called IPIC or Cepsa, whatever they want”.
However, Abu Dhabi Bernabeu has been adopted as the new name of the stadium during a recent deliberation involving directors of IPIC, the report added.
Abu Dhabi is expected to finance a percentage of the 500 million euro which will be spent in the remodelling of the new Bernabeu stadium, paying an annual cost of 20 million euro per season to Real Madrid.
