Belgrade: A bus carrying the Serbian football team was pelted with stones in Tirana despite heavy security deployed in the Albanian capital ahead of Thursday's clash against Albania in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Serbian media reported that no one was injured in the incident, which occurred on Wednesday night when a teenager threw a stone at the bus carrying the Serbs from the airport to a hotel in Tirana, Efe reported.

The Serbian Foreign Ministry summoned the ambassador of Albania in Belgrade to deliver a protest note, which the Albanian diplomat refused to take, saying that nothing serious happened.

In addition, the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) said the match could come into question if other incidents occur.

Meanwhile, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic criticised on Thursday the "politicization of a sporting event".
