Tottenham stadium plan approved, eyes Olympic site
London: British football club Tottenham Hotspur said plans to redevelop its White Hart Lane stadium have been approved by its local council and that it is keen to lease the London Olympic stadium after 2012.
The club said Haringey Council unanimously approved the 400 million pound (USD 629.5 million) redevelopment of its North London stadium to take its capacity to around 56,000.
"Clearly we are delighted with this unanimous decision and are grateful to all those who expressed such clear support for the plans," Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy said on Friday.
The club also said it had teamed up with AEG, the US operator of London`s o2 Arena, to mount a joint bid to lease the London Olympic stadium after the 2012 games in London.
"It is only prudent and good management that we ensure that we investigate all possible options for the club," said Levy.
