Zambia women team protest over pay

Zambia`s women`s football team ended a three-day sit in at the office of the football association over unpaid allowances on Monday.

The players claim they were supposed to be paid the money for their participation in the African Women Championships held in Namibia.

The football association spokesman Nkweto Tembwe told AFP that the players would only be paid when funds were available.

"We won`t be held to ramson by anyone," he said.

"We will pay the players as and when funds are available and we will not accept to be held to ransom by anyone, Tembwe said.

The players left the building premises Monday but promised to be back on Wednesday.

It was not clear how much they were promised, but they claim to have been given only $15 upon their return from Namibia.
