Honolulu: Australia`s Robert Allenby tapped in from two feet to birdie the par-four 10th and join American Ryan Palmer in a tie for the lead in the Sony Open third round on Saturday.
A stroke behind the pacesetting Palmer overnight, four-times PGA Tour winner Allenby was two under for the day and 10 under overall at a breezy Waialae Country Club. The Australian had caught Palmer early on when he knocked in a four-foot birdie putt at the par-four second before his playing partner regained the outright lead with a birdie at the fifth. Palmer, bidding for his third PGA Tour title, reached the turn in one-under 34 and was unable to match Allenby`s birdie at the 10th for the players to be deadlocked at the top.Defending champion Zach Johnson of the US was alone in third at nine under, having rolled in a 30-footer at the par-three 11th for his third consecutive birdie of the round. Australian Nathan Green was a further two strokes back at seven-under 203 after eagling the last for a sparkling five-under 65 earlier in the day. Bureau Report
