Johannesburg: South African golfer James Kamte has expressed his disappointment over the lack of black golfers in the South African Open at Glendower Golf Club.
According to Sport24, the four-time winner of the Sunshine Tour feels that there is a lack of development in South Africa when it comes to golf, adding that golf in South Africa for the black people started off very late in the country.
Stating that the real key to development in the local game lay in the support base, Kamte, who was hailed by his country`s legend Gary Player as the ` South African Tiger Woods `, believed it would still take more time before golf watchers became more representative of the country as golf is a `game of patience`.
Stating that they were not allowed to watch or play golf during their childhood, Kamte also said that now is the right time to get young black children interested in the sport on the golf course and called on the government to help out.
