Gangjee`s 65 takes him close to top-10 at Chilean Classic

Santiago (Chile): Rahil Gangjee equalled his best ever card with a seven-under 65 to rise to tied 13th at the end of the third round of the inaugural Chile Classic presented by Pacific Rubiales on the 2012 Nationwide Tour.

Playing in his first event of the season in the US, Gangjee had six birdies, an eagle-2 and a bogey in his round of 65, the second best of the day. Gangjee has risen from tied 82nd after first round to tied 35th after second to tied 13th. "I am feeling great. It was nice to sink all those putts. The key is confidence and I can feel that," said Gangjee. "A good start to the season is very important and I need to maintain that tempo," he added. The leader is Paul Haley (64) and he is now a whopping 21-under for three rounds and is six shots clear of the second placed Brad Elder (66) at 15-under. Gangjee`s previous best was also a 65 at Stadion Classic at UGA in May last year. His best finish has been tied 11th at Rex Hospital Open and he could better it this week. Gangjee opened with three birdies on the trot and added an eagle two on par-4 10th hole. Two more birdies followed on 12th and 14th to put him at seven-under. A dropped shot on 17th was quickly recovered with a birdie on 18th. He is paired with local Chilean Benjamin Alvarado, so he can look forward to a good gallery in the final round. Three players were at 14-under in the low-scoring tournament at the par-72 Prince of Wales Golf and Country Club. There were as many as 21 players with scores of 67 or better on a day when the winds were light and the weather sunny. PTI
