Jeev and Kapur miss cut at Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: The Indian challenge at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championships came to a premature end as both Jeev Milkha Singh and Shiv Kapur missed the cut after the second round of the golf tournament here on Saturday.

Both the Indians improved on their first round showing, but it was not enough to keep them in the tournament for the weekend.

Jeev was done in by a mid-round blip as he double bogeyed the eighth and bogeyed the ninth after a couple of birdies in his front nine.

The Chandigarh golfer, who shot 75 in the first round, fired three birdies on the back nine against no bogeys to round off at 70 but it could not save him as he fell short of the cut line by one shot.

Kapur, also 75 in first round, shot a 72 and fell by the wayside.

Defending champion Martin Kaymer took over at the top from South African Charl Schwartzel at the midway stage. Kaymer added a 65 to his first round 67 to be 12-under and Schwartzel, who defended his title last week at Joburg Open, added a 71 to his 64 and was three behind at nine-under.

Graeme McDowell 66 and 70 was third at eight-under.
