Riffa: Jeev Milkha Singh will seek to make amends for his narrow miss at Abu Dhabi last week, when he tees off in the inaugural Volvo Golf Champions at the Montgomerie Golf Course here on Thursday.
Jeev, who missed the cut by one shot at Abu Dhabi, has been paired with John Bickerton and Andrew Marshall for the first two rounds, and tees off from the tenth on the opening day. Jeev qualified for the event as a past winner of the Volvo Masters of Europe, and is the only Indian in the field.
The event will carry a prize money of Euro 1.7 million.
The strong field includes players who between them have won eight Major Championship titles, 329 European Tour wins and 27 US PGA Tour triumphs.
There are seven players from the top 30 of the Official World Golf Ranking- Paul Casey, Ian Poulter, Francesco Molinari, Robert Karlsson, Edoardo Molinari, Miguel Angel Jimnez and Padraig Harrington.The field also includes Italian teenager Matteo Manassero -- the 2010 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year winner – and 20 time worldwide winner Sergio Garcia.
Also in action will be Spaniard Jos, Maria Olazbal, who last week was named captain of the European Ryder Cup Team.The event is the second in the four week-long Desert Swing on the 2011 European Tour international schedule.
