Shiv Kapur confident ahead of British Open Qualification

New Delhi: Fresh from his impressive top 10 finish at the Avantha Masters, Shiv Kapur will now head to Thailand in a bid to qualify for the world’s most prestigious golfing event, the British Open.
Kapur had a great week at the co-sanctioned Avantha Masters in front of his home crowd here and the Delhi golfer said he will be looking to continue this rich run of form in the qualifying event for the British Open. The Open Championship International Final Qualifying Asia, a two-day, 36-hole qualifier, gets under way on Thursday in Bangkok and showcases the who’s-who of Asia-Pacific region. “It was great to come back home and perform the way I did in front of friends and family at the Avantha Masters but I’m now hoping to continue this form for the rest of the year,” said Shiv. “The British Open is the biggest event on the golfing calendar and it’ll be phenomenal to be a part of it again and play amongst the best golfers on the most pristine course in the world.” The qualifying tournament in Thaliand on the 24th and 25th of February at Amata Spring Country Club will see only the top four golfers going through from the talented field of 77 top players.Shiv wants to go with a positive mindset to put him in contention but reckoned it is not going to be easy. “While it is obviously not going to be easy, I am feeling better than I have for a while on the course and am striking the ball extremely well so I have every reason to go in with a very confident mindset,” he said. The British Open Championship will take place from July 14-17 at Royal St. George’s in southern England. PTI
