Jayasuriya unhurt in accident, three armymen injured
Colombo: Sri Lankan cricketer-turned- politician Sanath Jayasuriya escaped unhurt in an accident in his hometown, even as three armymen were injured in the incident, police said on Sunday.
Jayasuriya`s vehicle collided with a motor cycle in Matara, his home town, 160 km south of Colombo.
Jaysuriya, 42, was unhurt in the accident, police said.
All the three injured were army soldiers. They have been admitted to hospital. Jaysuriya became a member of parliament of the ruling party in April but dropped from the national cricket team announced last week for next month`s world cup.
This will be the first time that Jayasuriya will miss playing in the World Cup since 1992.
He was also not able to retain his Indian Premier League position with the Mumbai Indians this time where his one time team mate Mahela Jayawardene received the highest bid for foreign player.
